Registration Open for Wayland Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy

WAYLAND — Acting Chief Ed Burman is pleased to announce that residents can now sign up for the Wayland Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy this spring.

Wayland’s Citizens Police Academy is designed to bring residents and police officers together so that participants may learn about policing while building connections with one another.

This free academy is open to Wayland residents aged 18 and older. Classes will be held each Wednesday from March 1 to March 29, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Wayland Police Department training room, 38 Cochituate Road.

Members of the Wayland Police Department will cover numerous topics, including the history of policing in Wayland, Criminal & Constitutional Law, Motor Vehicle Law, Domestic Violence, Community Relations, Investigations, Firearms Training and more.

“The academy is an exciting opportunity to learn more about the different aspects of policing and it allows students to experience a behind-the-scenes look into our daily operations,” Acting Chief Burman said. “We look forward to meeting and connecting with all the community members who attend, including those who may see a future career in policing.”
