WHAT:
The state recently enacted new legislation aimed at increasing the availability of housing in Massachusetts. As part of this legislation, Wayland has been designated as an MBTA community, meaning that it must provide one or more zoning districts where multi-family housing will be constructed.
During the forum, the Planning Board will provide an overview of the new guidelines regarding MBTA communities, including the interim and final compliance deadlines, and discuss potential areas in Town that could accommodate multi-family housing.
This state initiative is geared toward increasing the number of market-rate housing units The program is not intended to create affordable housing.
“As the Planning Board works to meet these new requirements, we ask for community members to share their ideas and input at this event, which will be the first of many opportunities,” said Town Planner Robert Hummel. “Input from the community is vital and we hope to have them join us as we begin the process of creating new zoning districts that can accommodate multi-family housing.”
Residents are encouraged to keep an eye out for additional opportunities to get involved in the coming months.
