Council on Aging Programs: Week of December 5

The Council on Aging offers fitness classes and social and educational programs, as well as information and referral services for residents 60 and older and those who support them. MONDAY, DECEMBER 5

10:00am: Walking Club  At the Natick Mall
Join our friendly Walking Club to walk with Wayland seniors for up to an hour. For the winter months, the Walking Club is walking at the Natick Mall. Meet in front of Dunkin Donuts. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle. Contact Shawna Levine at 508-358-2990 or slevine@wayland.ma.us to register.
 
9:30am: Tai Chi In Person in the Large Hearing Room
This ancient form of Chinese exercise enhances the flow of internal energy in the body using slow, graceful movements, breath work and meditation. The class involves continuous movement and may not be suited to those who use a cane or walker. Registration and fee required.

1:00pm: Video Documentary Series In Person in the COA 
How It’s Made. Have you ever wondered how toothpicks, coins, or fireworks are made? Or any of the many things we buy and use? Explore the fascinating world of how everyday items are manufactured and produced. From aluminum foil to contact lenses, from drinking water to grocery carts, discover the fascinating processes used to make a wide range of common items that are all around us. Drop in.

2:00pm: Connections On Zoom
Connect with friends old and new, and enjoy good conversation in this facilitated discussion group. New members are always welcome. Zoom in and try it out! Registration required.  


TUESDAY, DECEMBER 6


10am: Lois’ Fit For the Future In Person, Large Hearing Room

Lois Leav’s aerobic and strengthening class meets in the Large Hearing Room in the Town Building. Registration and fee required.

10:30am: Knit Together On Zoom
Knit in the company of other knitters over Zoom. Some are knitting children’s wear — mittens, hats, scarves — to donate to The Knitting Connection, which gives them to families in need; we have a collection of donated yarn and knitting needles for that purpose. Call us to get the Zoom link. Join us! Registration required.

 WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7


9:00am: Theratube On Zoom
With certified instructor Ellen Cohen-Kaplan, use resistance bands to increase range of motion and strength. Registration and fee required.
 
10:15am:  Zoomba On Zoom 
Enjoy this fun cardio dance class led by certified instructor Ellen Cohen-Kaplan. Registration and fee required.

11:30am – 12:00pm: Medication Take-Back In Person in the COA
Bring your expired or unwanted medications to turn over safely to the Wayland Police in the Council on Aging. Drop in.

12:00pm: Pizza Cafe! In Person in the COA
Join us for our monthly pizza buffet, salad, beverage and dessert, all for $5. Call us to reserve your spot by Monday at noon.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8


10:00am: Jewelry Workshop In Person, Large Hearing Room 
Jeweler Norma Radoff guides participants to make unique, hand-crafted jewelry. Materials are provided. For Wayland residents only. This class is full, but there will be additional classes in January and February. 

10:00am: Fit for the Future In Person, Large Hearing Room

10:30am: COA Social Group On Zoom
Catch up with old friends and make new ones in this friendly, informal conversation group. New participants are always welcome. Join us! Registration required.  


FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9

9:30am: SAIL: Stay Active and Independent for Life On Zoom
This interactive, evidence-based class is led by the incomparable Joe Fish. The class helps improve balance and mobility, reduce the risk of falls, and improve quality of life. Participants can take the class while seated, and Joe can tailor class to other individual needs. Registration and fee required.
