Wayland Fire Department Welcomes New Firefighter

Chief Neil McPherson is pleased to announce that the Wayland Fire Department has welcomed a new firefighter upon his graduation from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.

Firefighter Chris DeBernardi graduated as part of the 318th Class of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s 50-day Career Recruit Firefighting Training Program on Monday, Feb. 26.

Recruits learn a wide range of skills during the intensive 10-week Academy program at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy. Certified and more experienced firefighters lead classroom instruction, physical fitness training, firefighter skills training, and firefighting practice. Students are given training in public fire education, hazardous material incident mitigation, flammable liquids, stress management, confined space rescue techniques, and rappelling. Upon successful completion of the Recruit Program, all students have met national standards of National Fire Protection Association 1001.

“I am pleased to welcome Firefighter DeBernardi as the newest member of the Department,” said Chief McPherson. “I look forward to the great things he will help us to accomplish in serving the Town of Wayland.”

The graduating firefighters of Class #318 represent the fire departments of Andover, Bellingham, Chelsea, Clinton, Dracut, Everett, Fitchburg, Foxborough, Framingham, Hopedale, Manchester, Milford, North Attleboro, Orange, Orleans, Sudbury, Uxbridge, Walpole, Wayland, and Wrentham.
