Virtual Author Talk: Jason Mott and Hell of a Book

Winner of the 2021 National Book Award and NY Times bestseller, Mott’s hilarious, heartbreaking, scalding novel follows a Black author on a book tour, accompanied by a boy who may or may not be real.  Deeply honest and electrically funny, it goes to the heart of the hidden costs exacted upon Black Americans and America as a whole.  Register.  Tuesday, February 20 at 4 p.m.

Virtual Author Talk: Peter Bellerby and The Globemakers 

When Peter Bellerby set out to make a globe for his father’s eightieth birthday, after failing to find a suitable one to purchase, it led him to establish Bellerby & Co, one of the only artisan globemakers in the world. Come inside Bellerby’s gorgeous studio to learn how he and his team of cartographers and artists bring these stunning celestial, terrestrial, and planetary objects to life.  Register.  Thursday, February 22 at 2 p.m.

The Academy Awards: the Good, the Bad, and the Outrageous

How did the Oscars get started?  Which greats were never even nominated?  What are some of the ceremony’s most famous (and infamous) moments? Who will win this year?  Join film speaker, podcaster, and cable host Frank Mandosa as he answers these questions and more about Hollywood’s big night.  There will be interactive trivia questions, film clips, poster board displays, movie-themed door prizes, and blank Oscar ballots.  Register.  Tuesday, February 27 at 7 p.m.

Virtual Author Talk: Kim Scott and Radical Candor

You don’t have to choose between being a pushover and a jerk when it comes to managing people.  Kim Scott, New York Times bestselling author, will explain the Radical Candor feedback framework.  She’ll offer practical, tactical tips for how to solicit criticism, give praise and criticism, gauge how what you’re saying is landing, and build a culture of Radical Candor.  Register.  Wednesday, February 28 at 2 p.m.

PlugIn to Climate Solutions

Explore Wayland’s plugIN initiative to help residents explore heat pumps, home and community solar, and our new program, Wayland Electricity Choice, to provide residents choices for greener energy.  The town’s new Sustainability Manager, Abigail Shute, will answer questions and discuss exciting new state and federal financial incentives for climate-friendly actionsCo-sponsored by the Wayland Energy and Climate Committee, Energize Wayland, the Wayland Democratic Town Committee, and the Library.  RegisterThursday, February 29 at 7:30 p.m.

That includes 1040 Forms and Instructions, and MA Form 1s, ready for you to pick up.  If you’d like additional Schedules and tables, we can easily print them out for you, free of charge.  Just ask at the main desk or the Reference Desk.

New Catalog and Your Reading History

Our new catalog is here!  If you’ve established a Reading History or other lists in the old catalog, you need to transfer them to the new one to save them.  Log in to your account in the new system, go to your lists, and select “Import from Old Catalog.”  Note: large lists may take extra time to migrate.  We’re always ready to help; call or stop by anytime.

FOR BABIES, TODDLERS AND PRESCHOOLERS

Music, Story, Fun! with Ms. Janet

Join Ms. Janet for a musical storytime. She’ll bring her ukulele, rainbow bells, and puppets! We will meet in the Children’s Room. For ages birth through age 4, with caregivers. Please register. Thursdays, February 22, and February 29 at 10:30 a.m.

Baby & Toddler Storytime

This storytime encourages early literacy and caregiver-child interactions with lively songs and rhymes, bounces, books, and body-awareness. Best for babies and toddlers, with caregiver.

Chinese Storytime

Children will listen to stories and rhymes, and sing songs in Mandarin and in English. We will also make Dragon Puppets in celebration of the Year of the Dragon. FEBRUARY VACATION SPECIALS

Make a Chomping Dragon Grabber

Join Ms. Wendy to make your own Chomping Dragon Grabber. Can you make a dragon that can “eat” pom poms? Kids will design, create, and decorate their grabbers. Wizard Tower Escape Room

Escape Room Adventure! Follow the journal entries, gather ingredients, and cast spells to see if you can escape the Wizard’s Tower! For ages 8 and up. Program led by WickedFunGames. Dance with the Miracle Sister

Warm up your dancing shoes and come to our Casita for a special dance party and sing-along event with the Miracle Sister! For ages 3 and up, with caregiver. Please register HERE. Thursday, February 22, at 2:30 p.m.

Kids Chess Club

Children will learn chess and get tips to improve their game. This is a beginner’s club for children with little to no chess experience. Wayland High School students Andrew Fang and Michael Eberle will lead the club. For children ages 7 and up. Please register HERE. Saturday, February 24, at 2:00 p.m.
