Evening Book Group Featuring Author Jane Healey

Healey will be present for the discussion of her latest novel, Goodnight from Paris.  In Nazi-occupied France, an American movie star takes on the most dangerous role of her life in a gripping novel about loyalty and resistance, inspired by a true story, from the Washington Post and Amazon Charts-bestselling author of The Secret StealersRegister to attend in person or online.  Monday, May 1 at 7 p.m.

Virtual Author Talk: Britt Hawthorne

Raising antiracist children is a noble goal for any parent or caregiver, but it can be hard to know where to start. Let Britt Hawthorne—a nationally recognized teacher and advocate—be your guide. Her New York Times bestseller, Raising Antiracist Children is as an interactive guide for strategically incorporating the tools of inclusivity into everyday life and parenting.  Register.  Wednesday, May 3 at 1 p.m.

Library 175th Anniversary Celebration

Join us in the parking lot and on the green lawn behind the library for a gala celebration of our 175 years!  We’ll have live music by two bands (one from WHS, the other including the Library’s own Andy Moore), activities and fun for kids (including face painting!), very brief remarks by very important people, and cupcakes and ice cream.  And of course, the vast resources of the library.  Sunday, May 7 at 3 p.m.

Virtual Author Talk: Emily Franklin on Isabella Stewart Gardner

The Lioness of Boston is a deeply evocative novel of the life of Isabella Stewart Gardner, a daring visionary who created an inimitable legacy in American art and transformed the city of Boston itself.  Emily Franklin will discuss her with author Dawn Tripp.  Hosted by the Tewksbury Public Library, co-sponsored by the Wayland Library and others.  Register.  Monday, May 8 at 7 p.m.

Great Presenters: Dr. Craig Gruber

As domestic and international security have become more intertwined, the role of intelligence analysis has become more pronounced.  Join us for a talk about the challenges and opportunities both met and missed in domestic and international security.  Research Associate Professor at American University, and formerly the department chair for Intelligence and Security Studies at Northeastern University, Craig has written extensively on leadership and security issues.  In person and virtual.  Register.  Tuesday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m.

Virtual Author Talk: Not Funny with Jena Friedman

In her debut collection, comedian and filmmaker Friedman takes on the third rails of modern life in her bold and subversive style, with essays that explore cancel culture, sexism, work, celebrity worship, and…dead baby jokes.  Jena Friedman has written and produced for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Late Show with David Letterman, and is the creator of AMC’s Indefensible.  RegisterWednesday, May 10 at 8 p.m.

The Library Land Project

Do you love libraries? Greg Peverill-Conti, Executive Director of the Library Land Project, does too!  Greg has visited over 400 libraries across the US.  Join us for a fun presentation on the role today’s libraries play in their community and hear about some of the libraries he loves.  The LLP’s mission is to explore, document, and promote public libraries to educate people about the essential role of these institutions.  In person and virtual.  Register.  Thursday, May 11 at 3 p.m.

FOR BABIES, TODDLERS AND PRESCHOOLERS

Outdoor Baby & Toddler Storytime with Ms. Carly

This storytime encourages early literacy and caregiver-child interactions with lively songs and rhymes, bounces, books, and body-awareness. Best for babies and toddlers, with caregiver.

Weather permitting, we will meet outdoors on the green lawn. Tuesdays, May 2, May 9, May 16, May 23, and May 30 at 10:30 a.m.

Storytime with Ms. Pam

Join Ms. Pam for stories, songs, puppets, and activities. For ages 2.5 to 5 years with an adult. Please register. We will meet in the Children’s Room. Thursdays, May 4, May 11, and  May 18,  at 10:30 a.m.

Early Childhood Fair with Tom Knight’s Musical Puppets

Learn about the early childhood resources available for Wayland families with young children! Local preschools, the Wayland Library, Family ACCESS Community Connections, and WIC will host tables. Tom Knight and his Musical puppets will perform at 11:00 am. This event takes place at the Hannah Williams Playground, 71 Main Street, Wayland. Saturday, May 20, 10am to 12 pm. Rain date is Sunday, May 21.

Storytime with Obie the Dog

Children will listen to dog stories and have a chance to visit with Obie, a beautiful Samoyed. Obie will be accompanied by his owner Helen. We will meet in the Raytheon Room. For ages 3 and up, with an adult. Please register HERE. Thursday, May 25, at 10:30 am.
