Wayland Health Department Encourages Residents to Register for Community Flu Clinics

WAYLAND —  Director Julia Junghanns announces that the Wayland Health Department and Medical Reserve Corps Volunteers are holding free injectable flu vaccine clinics throughout September and October for all interested individuals, and encourages everyone to book an appointment.

The best way to protect against flu and its potentially serious complications is with a flu vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that almost everyone aged six months and older get a seasonal flu vaccine each year, ideally by the end of October. As long as flu viruses are circulating, vaccination should continue throughout flu season, which may continue into January or later.

Clinics will be held on:

  • Seniors Only Drive-Thru Clinic: Wednesday, Sept. 28from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the old Whole Foods parking lot at Wayland Village Plaza, 297 Boston Post Road. Register here.
  • Drive-Thru Clinic: Wednesday, Oct. 12from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the old Whole Foods parking lot at Wayland Village Plaza, 297 Boston Post Road. Registration will open Sept. 29.
  • Monday, Oct. 17from 4-7 p.m. in the Large Hearing Room at Town Hall, 41 Cochituate Road. Registration will open Sept. 29.

For the drive-thru clinics, attendees should enter the plaza through the Pelham Island Road entrance.

The injectable seasonal quadrivalent Influenza vaccine will be available to all residents aged six months and older at the clinics. The high-dose influenza vaccine, which is authorized for individuals aged 65 and up, will be available at the flu clinics.

Residents are asked to bring all insurance and Medicare cards to the clinics. Residents will receive additional instructions after booking an appointment.

Please note that pre-registration is required. Information and registration links will be listed on the Health Department’s website. Those who need help registering should call the vaccination hotline at 508-358-6805 and leave a message, and someone will call back to assist.

Anyone who cannot attend the clinic is advised to call their doctor or local pharmacy to schedule a vaccination. Residents aged 65 or older are encouraged to ask about options specifically formulated for their age group.

Remember, vaccines are designed to protect against severe illness and death. Residents who feel unwell this winter please call should doctor their doctor to discuss antiviral medicines that can help them recover from illnesses, including the flu or COVID-19.

If residents feel unwell, they are advised to stay away from others and follow medical advice to protect the community and help keep Wayland well.
